It’s quite uncanny how close Obama’s Moon is to Romney’s Ascendant, whatever that might mean, precisely. It certainly opens a channel between them, one that could encourage friendship under ideal circumstances, but it allows any type of energetic exchange to occur more directly. Romney’s Saturn is Conjunct Obama’s Mercury and Opposes Obama’s Jupiter; he doesn’t buy Obama’s charming oratory and could block or discredit it- even while being intimadated by it. Romney’s Pluto is also Conjunct Obama’s Sun. Obama’s Mars is in tight Opposition to Romney’s Sun. These factors can make for a very competitive dynamic between two people, and interestingly, around the time of the election Transiting Mars will be located at 21-22 Sagittarius, Square Obama’s Mars and Square Romney’s Sun. They’re both assertive and/or agitated then, and their competitive and possibly even hostile interpersonal Sun-Mars Opposition is energetically triggered.
Shortly before the election, during October 2012, Transiting Saturn will be early in Tropical Scorpio, Square Romney’s Saturn, and Square Obama’s Mercury and Jupiter. This looks very stressful and worrying for both of them. It seems a close call; neither of these candidates are streets ahead of the other.
Mercury turns Retrograde, literally on the 6th of November 2012! That’s conspicuous. Could this be an indication of some vote counting controversy? Mercury also turned Retrograde within about 24 hours of the George Bush vs. Al Gore election on the 7th of November 2000. The omniscient Wikipedia tells us the following about that Bush vs. Gore contest: “the election was noteworthy for a controversy over the awarding of Florida‘s 25 electoral votes, the subsequent recount process in that state, and the unusual event of the winning candidate having received fewer popular votes than the runner-up.”
The normally clear and logical counting process Mercury represents became muddied by technicalities, so that it’s far from certain that, in that case, the winner was really the one chosen by the people.
I cast a little Vedic horary (Prashna) chart (4 October 2012, 8:51am, Cape Town). My question was “will Obama be reelected?”.
I would take Obama as represented by the Ascendant and 1st House. We find that the Ascendant is Scorpio and Mars, the Ascendant ruler, is Conjunct the Ascendant in the 1st House, in it’s own sign. This alone seems a very strong indication that Obama will succeed. Both the Ascendant and Mars are located in Anuradha Nakshatra, the 17th Lunar Mansion of Vedic Astrology. Like the preceding Vishakha Nakshatra, Anuradha is associated with goals and achievements, though Anuradha is more specifically inclined to form alliances and achieve through teamwork. Amoung the themes associated with Anuradha in Light on Life is the image of “joyous victory celebrations“.
Rahu (the North Node of the Moon) is in the 1st House too, which points to great drive and ambition, and from a worldly perspective this most likely counts in Obama’s favor.
This would all seem to indicate that it’s a done deal for Obama, and I do expect that he will win; but Vedic astrology takes the 6th House as enemies and opponents, and interestingly, since Aries is there, this potent Mars is also representing Romney in this chart! What could this mean? Is he also celebrating?!
Western astrology would take the 7th House as the opponent, and I believe some Vedic astrologers could accept the logic in that, and taken from that angle we note that Moon, Jupiter and Ketu (South Node) are all in the 7th House (isn’t it amazing that Romney has Moon and Jupiter in Conjunction, along with the South Node, in his birth chart too?!!). The Moon is exalted in the sign Taurus, but Jupiter weak in this sign. This may translate as Romney presenting a moral (Jupiter) and down-to-earth (Taurus Moon) quality that “the common people” can relate to. Venus, the 7th lord, is in the 10th; he’s not weak or unpopular.
Also, in this horary chart, Mercury, dispositor of the Sun (which rules the current dasha period), is located in the 12th House with Saturn (the sub-period ruler). Could this be another indication of some sort of technical vote counting problem or irregularity? Are there hidden plots? We wouldn’t know.
Normally with such horary charts, in my limited experience (since I don’t specialize in their use), the answer is clearly there in the primary symbolism. The strength of the Ascendant Ruler and 1st House seem to point to an Obama victory. For what it’s worth, looking at the Transits, smooth talking Obama’s waxing lyrical just before and after the election date, presumably sprouting forth inspiring words of thanks and praises that are less likely to enthrall than they did four years ago. All the same, he seems to win, but I’ve been more certain of things before…
